Jaw Joints & Temporo-mandibular Joint (TMJ) disfunction
The temporomandibular joints are synovial joints where the mandible (lower jaw) articulates with the base of the skull. Commonly called jaw joints they sit just in front of the ears.
Injury, stress and changes in the bite or occlusion can affect the internal joint mechanism leading to symptoms such as headaches, neck and jaw pain and in severe cases pain with opening or chewing.
There are many treatment modalities available for TMJ problems. As always, our practice approach is conservative to avoid unnecessary treatment and expenses.
